Coping mechanism? Don't know really - as you say, sure she meant well. Maybe she just wanted to put something down on a piece of paper. Not sure I would have taken it with me to the funeral mind.

I'm sure it was meant well, but frankly that would make me furious. It was clearly a terrible situation already, without pouring on horrendous, sentimental guff like that. Was she trying to destroy him?

Cheers chaps, yes she's had a good innings more than most cats I suspect, just a horrible thing to go through but something was gonna get her soon I suppose.
She seems blissfully unaware and is quite happy still and currently sunning herself in the garden.

......I had a dog once too who died fairly young, we've got two other younger cats. No more pets for me, too upsetting when they go.

Commiserations, Bentford.
I'm not really a cat person, but when the family cat, Neko, died last December I felt rather down.
Not nearly as much as when Buster died though.
Dogs love you, cats just tolerate you.

About 30 mins ago.
Found out last weekend she has bowel cancer and it's quite advanced.
Had her 20 years since she was a kitten. Matter of time now as she is going downhill quicker than expected.
Fucking heartbreaking!
